TRADERNICKS COINS & COLLECTIBLES
NICK BOYD
I started as a coin collector at a very young age. I didn't really have a favorite coin but as a kid I always was attracted to buffalo nickels. I still buffalos but other than my childhood coins, I don’t have a collection of my own. Like many childhood interests, numismatics were put on a shelf for several years as I became a young adult and entered the work force. But I heard the call again. I resumed collecting and found that I was able to sell duplicate, often at a profit...to fund other coin purchases. Before long I was setting up at local coin shows, buying and selling actively. After a couple of years I knew many different dealers, but was still surprised and delighted when I was offered a chance to manage a local coin shop.
The best way to learn anything is to immerse yourself in it. I strongly urge anyone wanting to learn the business to offer to apprentice at a local coin shop. Many dealers are eager to share knowledge. Eventually I wanted to work for myself, and began a home business, mostly selling on EBay. But I missed the shop atmosphere, missed the phone calls, and helping customers find items for their collections. So I opened a small shop inside a local antique store. All too soon I had grown too big, leased a building and hired some employees. Today, Tradernicks Coins & Collectibles is still located in Kissimmee, Florida.
We still sell on EBay (about 100 auctions weekly) with the user ID tradernick. I attend 20-25 shows per year, and have a wonderful store manager who keeps things running smoothly when I'm away.
I buy practically anything: Sterling and gold scrap, flatware, tea sets, currency, errors, tokens, toys, disneyana, jewelry, military items. I love old toys, glassware, swords. I once had a Prussian helmet made for Wilhelm’s personal guard, only 300 (allegedly) made. I had a voting booth from the 2000 presidential elections from Broward Co., FL, and yes there were chads left inside it. I've been featured in a couple of books as a successful eBay powerseller, though eBay is just a small percentage of the overall business
Our second location will open in Orlando in fall '07. We buy and sell all manner of coins, currency, and collectibles of all sorts such as jewelry, old toys, glassware, and more. Our business plan is fair prices and fast turnover.
Please feel free to drop by either location when you're in the Orlando area, or see me at most any major coin show. I'm always happy to help with your numismatic needs, whether you're selling or buying.
