Purnie E. Moore Interview

Blenda Brush

Purnie E. Moore’s 100th birthday was celebrated on August 25, 2007.  She was very active with the B.R.N.A. (I cannot find any information on the dates). However, I did a short telephone interview with her before the show and this is what I learned.

Q.    How many years were you President of the B.R.N.A.?

A.     Two years

Q.   How old were you when you started collecting?

A.   I was 12 years old - My Aunt gave me a snuff box that was full of pennies and nickels.

Q.   What is your favorite coin?
A.   The Isabella Quarter.  This is the only US Coin with a foreign person. The last one I owned I paid $375.00 and it was lost.

Q.   Do you attend any shows?
A.   No, the locations are too far. This year I attended the Alabama State Coin Convention because a friend of mine wanted to go.

Q.   What advice would you give a young collector?
A.   Purchase all the key dates that you can afford.

Q.   What do you think of the new gold coins?

A.   I don't like Gold as people will know what you have.

The B.R.N.A. awarded Purnie Moore the Honorary Life Member on her 100th birthday.  However, she was unable to attend the show in Dalton, Ga. The Honorary Life Membership and Certificate of  Appreciation (shown on this page) has been mailed to Purnie.
